BEAUTY vs. GROTESQUE

What do you consider beautiful? Is it the flawless, polished, shiny perfection that we are force-fed by the media – or can there be beauty in imperfection, wonkiness, otherness or even the grotesque? 

Let us consciously challenge our concept of beauty by playing with extremes: you may decide to turn yourself into a rigid, scarily perfect-looking “beauty” and by overly doing so revealing the ridiculousness of this ideal… Or you may experiment with changing, embellishing, highlighting or distorting certain aspects of your appearance – maybe even taking it to the extreme of grotesqueness in order to challenge what we are sold to be “normal” and to play with the reaction of others. 

So let’s be playful and curious and push the boundaries of our perception even further – because we don’t believe that beauty passively lies in the eye of the beholder, but that it is actively created by the confidence and courage of the subject! 

Dress code: 
- Show off, criticize, ridicule or distort beauty in any way 
- Also, as always: creative, naughty, unique and flamboyant

Was ist Schönheit für dich? Ist es die fehlerlose, polierte, glänzende Perfektion, die wir von den Medien gefüttert bekommen – oder kann Schönheit auch in Imperfektion, Schiefheit, Andersheit oder sogar im Grotesken liegen?

Lasst uns bewusst unser Konzept von Schönheit in Frage stellen, indem wir mit Extremen spielen: so kannst du dich z.B. in eine starre, furchterregend perfekt aussehende „Schönheit“ verwandeln – und, indem du dabei über das Ziel hinausschießt, die Lächerlichkeit dieses Ideals entblößen... Oder du kannst damit experimentieren, bestimmte Aspekte deiner Erscheinung zu verändern, auszuschmücken, hervorzuheben oder zu verzerren – vielleicht sogar bis zum Extrem des Grotesken, um die uns vorgeführten Werte der „Normalität“ auf die Probe zu stellen und mit der Reaktion anderer zu spielen.

Also lasst uns verspielt und neugierig sein und den Horizont unserer Wahrnehmung erweitern – denn wir glauben nicht, dass Schönheit passiv im Auge des Betrachters liegt, sondern dass sie aktiv durch das Selbstvertrauen und den Mut des Subjektes entsteht!
