With his album “Music Will Explain” (Choir Music Vol. 1), released on the legendary Los Angeles label Stones Throw Records, Mocky puts the human voice front and center. Using a choir, just one microphone, and an old tape recorder, he captures a warm, authentic, and deeply human sound. The album has garnered acclaim from heavyweights like Questlove and Jimmy Jam.

Now Mocky is bringing his legendary bimonthly Los Angeles residency to Berlin – and where better to hold it than at Gretchen? Get ready for intimate live performances, special guest appearances from artists in Mocky's impressive network (including Vulfpeck, Feist, GZA, and Kelela), and deeply groovy, danceable sounds, all carried by a fantastic international band brimming with openness and joy. Don't miss this – Mocky is bringing a slice of Californian sunshine to Berlin! Mocky became known for his warm, organic sound, a blend of soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop, and lo-fi pop, as well as for his productions for artists like Feist, Jamie Lidell, Kelela, Moses Sumney, and Vulfpeck. His work is characterized by analog recordings, vibrant grooves, and deliberately imperfect sessions with a strong live feel. Back in the early 2000s, he, along with Chilly Gonzales, Peaches, Feist, and Jamie Lidell, helped shape the Berlin expat scene, which encompassed electro, punk, soul, hip-hop, and performance art. With Gonzales and Peaches, he also founded the cult Dadaist underground punk band The Shit. Later, Mocky became a key figure in the alternative soul and jazz scene in Los Angeles. His "Mocky & Friends" residency there developed into a meeting place for musicians, producers, and improvisers from all over the world. The series represented a counter-movement in the L.A. music scene—away from purely digital production and toward genuine interaction, characterized by spontaneous collaborations, intimate live moments, communal music-making, recordings with real ensembles, and deeply grooving sessions. Many of these collaborations flowed directly into his albums and productions.
