This time, we have one of the most exciting new projects on the Berlin music scene: KOOB. KOOB is the project of Belarus-born singer and composer Valeryia Dele. In 2020, she moved to Berlin, where she immersed herself in the music scene, began studying jazz, and founded her band KOOB in 2023. Her debut album, "That Tree," earned her several awards at jazz competitions and paved the way for her performances on stages across Europe.
KOOB moves between jazz, avant-garde, soul, and groove, blending these influences into a sonic language that simultaneously disturbs, touches, and surprises. Dele's spoken-word vocals combine linguistic improvisation and rhythmic word art à la Jayne Cortez with the funky attitude of Meshell Ndegeocello and contemporary hip-hop.
Her latest album, "Off Head," captures raw jazz improvisations, spoken word, and experimental sounds—recorded live, without overdubs or post-production. Alternating between explosive energy and delicate introspection, "Off Head" explores themes such as urban frustration, mental heaviness, and fleeting moments of fragile tranquility. The result is an intense, genre-crossing portrait of everyday chaos and emotional honesty, which unfolds its full power in the raw, immediate live aesthetic.
Maura navigates playfully between soulful vocals and precise rap flows. The Berlin-based singer, songwriter, and MC blends soul, jazz, hip-hop, and indie pop into a sonic universe where narrative lyrics are just as important as intricate arrangements and rhythmic grooves. Socialized by hip-hop and producers like J Dilla, she found her own path to soul, jazz, and experimental sounds, making her an exception in a scene largely dominated by classical music training and university studies.
In 2021, she released the album "Grimus" together with Fred Red and Malik Diao. With her solo album "Mother of Chaos" (2024) and the recent EP "Shameful Days," she continues her musical journey, blending personal, social, and political themes with stylistically diverse songwriting.
