The Living Room invites you to enjoy live music on Saturday evening – N.E.S.T.A. brings us one last concert for the 2026 season and has invited ‚ala bab allah, a collective of SWANA musicians from Berlin.
‘ala bab allah is a Berlin-based collective founded in 2025 that brings together SWANA musicians who explore the intersection of tradition and experimentation. With their diverse musical backgrounds, they create immersive soundscapes rooted in cultural heritage, while simultaneously allowing space for improvisation and exceptional musicianship.
The name ‘ala bab allah is a common Egyptian expression that can be roughly translated as “before God’s door.” The phrase represents a life of spontaneity, openness, and humility, guided more by intuition than by rigid plans. This is also how the collective operates musically. Their music flows seamlessly between structured compositions and improvised performances, drawing inspiration from the diverse timbres of Arabic fusion.
