The next instalment of the Else summer season sees another slew of stellar names arriving on the banks of the Spree, this time for the annual Kompakt open-air. Open your diaries and plug this one in, because the Cologne label always brings a party.
Top of the bill is Michael Mayer, the brains behind the label and one of the most silky smooth selectors out there. Mayer’s skills in blending the old and the new, the contemporary with the classic, have established him as a main draw wherever he plays. The Kompakt man knows good music when he hears it, and he’s bringing some of favourite artists, including Barnt, a widely respected remixer and producer, and a much in-demand DJ with performances ranging from Robert Johnson to Trouw, Montreux Jazz Festival to Mutek México, and Berghain to Burning Man.
Opening for these two will be T.Raumschmiere, an expert in punk electro and techno but also a master of deep ambient, followed by a live set from Rex The Dog, the modular synth wizard. Later that night, old meets new as Tobias Thomas plays with Luuk, one of the most promising DJ talents coming from Cologne in many years, all before AniI steps up for the early-morning sunrise set, fresh off the back of her ‘Aniitime’ EP. It’s sure to be a high-energy affair full of great music with great vibes.
The party starts at 2pm on May 5. Get there early to get the party started!
